After getting the house in a somewhat presentable order, we headed out to explore the town. We actually live very close to a cave. So we headed to Lost World Caverns and spent the afternoon exploring the cave. It was really neat because you are able to go at you own pace and at times we were the only ones in the cave. Dayne enjoyed his free ride as I got some much needed exercise.
After our exploration, we browsed the gift shop and Dad did some damage-much to the kids delight. Geodes were bought for the sole purpose of busting them open when we arrived home to see what color of chrystals they held. Faith absolutely loved doing this with her Poppie.
Later in the week, we walked downtown and enjoyed looking at some of the unique stores- not that we could afford anything there, downtown caters to the extreme wealth in the area. But the old buildings are beautiful and it's always fun to window shop and enjoy a scoop of ice-cream on a beautiful day. While downtown, I stopped into the newspaper office to see about service. The ladies and I began talking about the State Fair that was coming to town. One said to other, "Wow, can you imagine seeing it through her eyes?" They were so amazed by it all.

On the following Sunday we decided to go to church at Greenbrier Regular (the church that had offered me a job as a teacher in their high school). However, our search- thanks to Mapquest- lead us on a wild goose chase and the church was not to be found. God had a greater plan in mind as we are ever so grateful that He is in control. We passed First Baptist of Fairlea twice on our will goose chase and decided that we would just try that church out since the services were going to begin soon. Turns out- the pastor is terrific and the people are wonderful. Last Sunday, we joined. I know you are wondering about the other church. We did find it the following week after getting directions from the pastor's wife. It was okay, but not what God had for us. I guess they knew we wouldn't be back as she has yet to contact me again- this after 3 months of constant contact.
The next day, Mom, Dad, Faith, Dayne and I headed to the Fair to have some fun. There was an overcast and light breeze so it was the perfect day to spend outside. The whole town basically stops for this event. We have a population of less than 3500 and yet over 100,000 people attend the Fair. Evidently, people come from all over to go. I would venture to say that none of these people driving from all over have ever visited Texas. The Forth Worth Stockshow is bigger than this State Fair. However, we had a great time and the kids enjoyed the animals and rides. We got to see a Sea Lion show and afterwards we all got our picture made with them. One of the Sea Lions put her head on top of Faith and the other laid hers on dad's shoulder. It was too cute.

Thursday that week, mom and dad had to say good-bye. We were all so sad to see them go. We had a great time and I couldn't have gotten the house together without them. We look forward to the next time we can see them. Dayne will miss his "Toddle Doddle Time" with Poppie and Faith will miss sleeping every night with her Nonie. Thanks for all of your help mom and dad. We love you.

So happy for you all that your fam got to be there. The kids probably needed some 'normal' faces even if just for a bit to remind them they're not really that far away. I've been a bit homesick today... so weird to me. We've been here a little over 4 yrs. Every once in awhile there will be a little wave of it and then it passes. Glad you have a blog!
ReplyDeleteJust love reading your blog and seeing those faces! Keep it up!
