On October 13th, we journeyed down to Union, W.V. to visit a pumpkin patch and let the kids pick out pumpkins. When we arrived we were greeted with an ice-cold wind that immediately began to cut right through us. But we were prepared, all of us except for Roonie, as he decided to take the lid off of his sippy cup on the way and spill all of his water on his pants- but did you really expect anything less from him? So we bundled up and set out to have an afternoon of fun on the farm.
The kids saw the Shetland Ponies and decided that they wanted to go for a ride on the little cart that they pulled. So Jason rounded up a worker and they were off. Dayne belly-laughed everytime the man got onto one of the horses. They had a good time and when they finished, they got off and petted the horses.
Next, we went to the see the animals they had around the farm. They had more ponies, goats, rabbits, kittens, a little lamb, etc. Faith fell in love with one of the ponies and of course begged us to take one of the kittens home with her. She and Dayne had a blast petting the animals and then Dayne saw the tractor. He immediately had his Daddy take him over to it and he just had to climb aboard. It is so cute the way he says track-er. He was in heaven and did not want to get off. The kids took off for the cornfields where we could have gone on a maze or a hayride, but it was too cold to stay much longer so we headed to the pumpkins to make our picks. Faith was picking out some goards to go along with the pumpkins when Dayne decided that he needed to pick out his own. It was too cute. We had a wonderful afternoon.
The following week we decided it was time to carve our pumpkins. Dayne and Faith each carried their pumpkins into the house to get started. I cut the tops off and Faith and Dayne started digging the guts out, well Faith did-Dayne just wanted the carving tool (Jason cleaned out most of his). Dayne held onto my hand as I carved his pumpkin face. Faith was able to do most of hers on her own. She wanted a scary one.
Then we took them outside and lit them up. Dayne kept saying "hot hot."
The kids had a great time. Now everyday when we go outside, Dayne points to his pumpkin and says my pumpky or pumpky- he knows that one is his and he loves it.
